Why is a cricket match called off and not canceled?

When referees consider that the break is temporary and the match can be resumed at a later date, then the match is suspended. This is unlike abandonment which implies that the match cannot be finished at all. The most frequent cause is weather, although technical difficulties or safety issues can terminate play. The suspended meaning in cricket is important as fans usually get confused. Suspension also provides the teams and organizers with an opportunity to resume when the circumstances are favourable. Indicatively, a rain can halt a game by one hour, and the game starts again. In the case of tournaments, schedules can be postponed by suspensions, whereas in league matche,s overs may be minimized. This is usual in cricket, especially when the weather is unpredictable, as explained by Sportzbuzz.
